The Lemptegy Volcano, located in the Chaîne des Puys (a UNESCO candidate), offers a unique, unusual opportunity to find out how a volcano is formed.

Find out about the secrets of volcanology via a 2 ¾-hour interactive visit consisting of four different phases:

- A guided discovery tour on foot or by train of the interior of the volcano (featuring volcanic bombs, slag, volcanic vents, lava flow, etc.) and the industrial past of the site (a tour of the old extraction machines).

- The successful, dynamic 4D film "Aux Origines" ("Origins") - relive the history of the volcano from when it erupted to the present day.

- The fun attraction "La Mine Explosive" ("The Explosive Mine.")

For an hour and a quarter, the Grotte de la Pierre de Volvic will immerse you in the world of quarrymen in the 1900s. As early as the 13th century, Volvic stone was extracted in a gallery at the heart of a lava flow. Let yourself be guided by the voice of Jules Cotte, the faithful foreman of Jean Legay-Chevalier, one of the most important quarrymen of the 1900s.

Volvic water and stone will reveal their secrets to you in five different areas - the open-air quarry and how it operates, the geological origin of the cave and the discovery of water, the uses of Volvic stone over the centuries, and daily life in Volvic.

Travel to the summit of the Puy de Dôme in an electric rack and pinion train. This mountainside route is a comfortable 15-minute journey and offers a breathtaking panorama of the Chaîne des Puys, the Plaine de la Limagne, Clermont-Ferrand and the Massif du Sancy.

Once you arrive at the station on the summit, you'll only have a few more metres to go before you discover the "Giant of the Dômes" ("Géant des Dômes") - a mythical site, the iconic symbol of the Auvergne.

Discover or rediscover this site, which has been awarded "Grand Site de France" ("Great French Site") certification, and has been redeveloped with conservation in mind.

The Puy de Dôme, in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park, welcomes you in all seasons and offers a wide range of activities for all ages, such as interactive areas, the remains of the Temple of Mercury, walks to the summit, two shops, a tabletop plaque pointing out the features of the landscape and a 360° panorama.
